Cast of Opening Act reading on Broadway: The author, director Michael Mastro, Cecily Strong, Beau Bridges, Jean Smart, Michael McKean and Adam MacLaughlin.

THE GLINT: a mean little comedy

Jerry and Chuck are 60 and still cling to their dreams of success as voice-over pitchmen... and the promise of hot young women.  This doesn’t sit so well with Chuck’s wife, Mary, who may or may not have a terminal illness.  A mean little romantic comedy about older folks with the hearts of teenagers, who can’t resist chasing… the glint.

2w, 2m

Features 3 actors in their early 60’s (2m, 1w) and a 20-something actress who plays a different role in every scene.

Production History:

On April 22nd, 2013, THE GLINT received a hit reading at Broadway’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre as a benefit for Opening Act, starring Beau Bridges, Michael McKean, Jean Smart and Cecily Strong - directed by Michael Mastro.

Previously, THE GLINT was given a successful backers audition by Nelle Nugent at The Broadway League, directed by Lonny Price and starring Beau Bridges, Judd Hirsch, J. Smith-Cameron and Jenn Colella.

Lonny Price also directed a public reading of THE GLINT at Guild Hall in East Hampton in July, 2012 starring Richard Benjamin, Aya Cash, John Ratzenberger and Jean Smart.

THE GLINT was also selected for the prestigious 2012 Ojai Playwrights Conference (where Matt worked on the play for two weeks in Ojai, CA with director Neel Keller (associate artistic director of Center Theatre Group) and actors Barry Bostwick, Tom McGowan, Maria Thayer and Michelle Joyner - culminating in a public reading.)

THE GLINT was originally developed through excerpted readings at Tuesdays@9, and in a workshop production at the Berkshire Playwrights Lab (directed by Matthew Penn, and starring Leslie Lyles, Kate MacCluggage, James Murtaugh and Richard Poe.)
